Snails are gross and downright annoying. They can also damage plants and create havoc for your garden. Nobody wants slimy slugs and snails slithering all over the yard.

If You Already Have Snails 

If you already have snails there are a few ways to get rid of them. 

You Can Just Pick Them Up

Sounds silly but it works. Especially if you have kids you can make a game out of hunting down and putting all the snails into a big bucket. Then you can take them far away from your house and garden. Not only will your kids have a blast but it's the most humane way you can deal with them as well. 

Snails Love Beer 

Put a couple inches of beer in the bottom of a some buckets or bowls and leave them around your garden. These make great snail traps. Beer attracts the snails, they go into the buckets and then they can't get back out. 

To Prevent Snails 

Crushed Eggshells 

Many gardeners use crushed eggshells to repel snails and slugs. You just need sprinkle the egg shells on top of the dirt surrounding your plants. The shells sharp edges feel unpleasant to the snails' soft bodies. Snails avoid slithering on top of them. Also, the eggshells are good for your plants.

Coffee Grounds 

Old ground coffee spread on top of your garden soil will prevent snails and help fertilize your plants. Studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture have shown that coffee is extremely effective at repelling and killing snails and slugs.
